GST Registration in Gujarat
How much does GST registration cost with FinTax24?
Our Gujarat fee is ₹4,999 for the full filing. There is no government fee for a new GST registration. The fee covers document prep, application filing on the GST portal, officer-query response, and GSTIN certificate delivery. We collect documents via secure link. Your first three months of GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B return filing come at no extra charge.
FinTax24 is based in Palitana, Bhavnagar district. We file GST registrations for businesses across all 33 Gujarat districts plus Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
Check Whether You Actually Need GST Registration
Most GST enquiries are decided by threshold, not by price. The free GST registration eligibility checker asks ten questions. It returns mandatory, voluntary, or not-required in about two minutes. If the question is the scheme rather than the threshold, the GST composition scheme checker settles regular versus composition against your turnover and input profile. Once the answer is yes, we file the REG-01, clear the officer query, and hand over the GSTIN. From the first GSTR-3B, the monthly cycle moves to GST return filing, which we run on the same engagement.
Gujarat Industries We Register
The form is the same for every Gujarat business — Form REG-01, state code 24, central portal. There is no separate Gujarat form. There is no faster state track. What changes by industry is what you put on the form and which scheme pays. These are the industries where the GSTIN pays back fastest:
- Diamond, gems and jewellery — Surat. Trading, cutting, and polishing units register well before the threshold. B2B buyers and export customers will not transact without a vendor GSTIN. The registration lets the unit claim input credit on metal, consumables, and job-work charges.
- Textiles, apparel and dyeing — Surat, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Bhavnagar. Fabric and garment exporters need a GSTIN for the credit chain, not just for the sale. Without registration, the input credit on yarn, dyes, chemicals, and job-work stays trapped with the supplier. The exporter cannot issue a zero-rated invoice.
- Chemicals and petrochemicals — Vadodara, Dahej, Sanand, Kutch. Multi-location plants usually need a separate GSTIN per state under one PAN. They also need correct HSN classification for intermediates and by-products. Getting the HSN split wrong at registration triggers ITC-mismatch notices two years later.
- Pharmaceuticals — Ahmedabad and Vadodara. These exporters run on the deferment route. The portal configuration set at registration — not the certificate — decides whether input credit actually flows. Scheme choice also differs between a formulation manufacturer and a contract packer.
- Ceramics and allied building products — Morbi. High-value, low-weight goods moving out of state are the classic case. A registered business recovers freight and packing input credit. An unregistered one cannot. Morbi's inter-state dispatch is inter-state by default.
- Agro, food processing and marine products — Rajkot, Amreli, Junagadh, Porbandar, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar. Frozen and marine exporters sit on the export and RCM side of the ledger. The LUT declaration and the GSTR-1 export tables decide whether a shipment clears without a cash-flow block at customs.
- Engineering, foundry and ports — Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Kutch, Bhavnagar. A job-work or contract-manufacturing model across several states needs the place-of-business structure set correctly at registration. Adding a state afterwards is a separate amendment cycle with its own officer verification.
The remaining Gujarat districts — Anand, Kheda, Dahod, Panchmahal, Narmada, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Mahisagar, Aravalli, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Botad, Devbhumi Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Surendranagar, Chhota Udepur — are served on the same terms. The only thing that changes by district is which documents you already hold. The checklist above is grouped by entity so you can see exactly which one applies to you.
What GSTIN Is and Why It Matters
GSTIN is the 15-character alphanumeric code you get after GST registration. The first two digits are the state code. The next ten characters are the entity's PAN. The thirteenth digit is the entity or branch code. The fourteenth is always Z. The fifteenth is a checksum from the preceding 14 characters. This structure means GSTIN embeds the PAN. It lets income tax, TDS, and GST databases reconcile automatically. For multi-state businesses, each state needs a separate GSTIN even under the same PAN. You must quote GSTIN on every tax invoice, e-invoice (for turnover above ₹5 crore), e-way bill, and return. The legal name on the GSTIN must exactly match the name on the PAN. A mismatch is one of the most common reasons for officer queries that delay registration by 2–3 weeks.
GST Registration Threshold — Mandatory vs Voluntary
The threshold for mandatory GST registration depends on what you supply and where. For goods suppliers, it kicks in at ₹40 lakh aggregate annual turnover in most states. It is ₹20 lakh in special-category states. For service providers, it is ₹20 lakh and ₹10 lakh respectively. The threshold is aggregate pan-India turnover, not state-wise. A business with ₹15 lakh in each of three states has crossed the ₹40 lakh threshold even though no single state shows it.
There is no threshold exemption for inter-state suppliers of goods or services. E-commerce operators, sellers on Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Zomato, Swiggy, casual taxable persons, non-resident taxable persons, and persons supplying through reverse-charge mechanism must all register regardless of turnover.
Voluntary GST registration is available for any business below the threshold. While not legally required, it delivers four practical advantages:
- Input Tax Credit (ITC). A registered business can claim GST paid on raw materials, capital goods, and services as credit against its GST liability on sales. This makes the business effectively GST-neutral on inputs.
- B2B credibility. Most large companies, MNC vendors, government departments, and e-commerce platforms prefer or require GST-registered suppliers.
- Inter-state expansion. Only GST-registered businesses can make inter-state supplies without restriction.
- Tender eligibility. Government and PSU tenders typically require GSTIN as a vendor prerequisite.
For early-stage Gujarat businesses planning B2B sales or inter-state operations, voluntary registration is almost always worth the extra compliance cost.
Documents Required for GST Registration
The document checklist depends on the type of entity. For all entities, you need the PAN of the business. You also need Aadhaar of the authorised signatory. Proof of business address is required. A recent photo of the authorised signatory at the registered business premises is needed. No bank account proof is required to start the application. For companies, additional documents include the Certificate of Incorporation from MCA, MOA and AOA, PAN of all directors, and board resolution authorising a signatory. For LLPs, the LLP Agreement and PAN of all designated partners. For partnerships, the partnership deed and PAN of all partners. For HUF, the HUF declaration and PAN of the karta. For trusts and societies, the trust deed or registration certificate, PAN of the trust, and identity proof of the managing trustee.
Common GST Registration Rejection Reasons and How to Avoid Them
The most common reasons for a GST officer to query or reject an application are address proof inconsistency, Aadhaar-mobile linkage issues, photograph format problems, and DSC issues for companies and LLPs.
- Address proof inconsistency. The address on the rent agreement must match the address on the utility bill and the address entered on the GST portal. Adding a house number, building name, or floor that exists in one document but not others triggers a query.
- Aadhaar–mobile linkage. The authorised signatory's Aadhaar must be linked to a mobile number that can receive OTPs during e-sign verification.
- Photograph specifications. The GST portal requires a specific file format and size for the signatory photo. Casual selfies often fail.
- Digital Signature Certificate (DSC). Required for companies and LLPs. The DSC must be active and registered under the authorised signatory's PAN.
FinTax24 pre-screens every document against this checklist before submission.
The GST Registration Process — Step by Step
- Part A of GST REG-01. On gst.gov.in, you enter PAN, mobile number, and email. Both mobile and email are verified via OTP. The system fetches PAN details from the income-tax database and auto-populates legal name, business constitution, and date of incorporation for companies.
- Part B of GST REG-01. You fill in business details — trade name, business activity, HSN / SAC codes for goods and services supplied, state and district of operation, principal place of business, additional places of business, bank-account details, and authorised signatory information. Documents are uploaded at this stage.
- Aadhaar authentication or DSC. For proprietorships, partnerships, HUFs, and trusts, the authorised signatory completes Aadhaar e-sign. For companies and LLPs, a Class 2 or Class 3 DSC is used. Verification must complete within 15 days of Part B submission.
- ARN generation. On successful submission, an Application Reference Number (ARN) is generated. The business can now collect tax and charge GST on invoices under "pending registration" status.
- Officer verification. The application goes to a jurisdictional GST officer who verifies the documents against the portal data. The officer may approve or raise a query. We respond to queries on your behalf within the 7-day window.
- GSTIN issuance. Upon approval, the 15-digit GSTIN is generated and the registration certificate is available for download on the portal. The first GSTR-3B return is due by the 20th of the month following the month of registration.
Regular vs Composition Scheme — Which One Should You Choose
Under the regular GST scheme, a registered business must file GSTR-1 (outward supplies) and GSTR-3B (summary return with payment) every month. You can also opt for the QRMP scheme. File quarterly GSTR-1 with monthly GSTR-3B. Regular taxpayers can claim Input Tax Credit on all business purchases. This typically results in a lower effective tax outflow than the composition scheme for businesses with significant input purchases. Under the composition scheme, the business pays a fixed percentage of turnover as GST — 1% for manufacturers and traders, 5% for restaurants and food services, 6% for service providers. Composition taxpayers cannot claim ITC. They cannot make inter-state supplies. They cannot supply through e-commerce platforms. They have a turnover cap of ₹1.5 crore. For most growing businesses with input costs, the regular scheme is more tax-efficient. Composition suits small traders with minimal input purchases and no inter-state operations — for example, a local kirana store or a single-city restaurant.
What Happens After GSTIN Is Issued — Compliance Calendar
After registration, the business must follow a strict compliance calendar to avoid penalties and interest. Monthly returns: GSTR-1 is due by the 11th of the following month. GSTR-3B is due by the 20th. Quarterly return (QRMP scheme): if you opt for QRMP (available for businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore), GSTR-1 is filed quarterly by the 13th of the month after the quarter ends. GSTR-3B is filed monthly by the 22nd–24th with payment only. Annual return: GSTR-9 is filed by December 31 of the following financial year. Other obligations: display the GSTIN certificate at the principal place of business. Quote GSTIN on all invoices. Generate e-invoices for B2B transactions above ₹5 crore aggregate turnover. Keep GST-compliant books for 6 years from the due date of the relevant return.
Penalties for Non-Compliance and Operating Without GSTIN
Operating without mandatory GST registration attracts a penalty of 10% of the tax amount due or ₹10,000 — whichever is higher — under Section 122 of the CGST Act. For deliberate tax evasion, Section 132 prescribes imprisonment from 6 months to 5 years along with a fine. Late filing of GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B attracts a late fee of ₹50 per day (₹25 for nil-rated returns) capped at ₹10,000. Late payment of GST attracts interest at 18% per year. A common mistake new registrants make is failing to file the first return. The portal can cancel GST registration if no return is filed for six consecutive months (or three quarters for QRMP). FinTax24 manages the full compliance calendar post-registration and sends proactive reminders before each due date.

Amendments, Cancellation, and Reactivation of GST Registration
Changes in business details — address, additional place of business, authorised signatory, bank account, or mobile/email — must be updated on the GST portal within 15 days. File REG-14 for core fields. Use the amendment window on the dashboard for non-core fields like email and mobile. For a change in legal name or business constitution, a fresh REG-01 application is required along with the original GSTIN cancellation. GST registration is cancelled by filing REG-16 if the business has been discontinued, turnover has dropped below the threshold for all India operations, the business is transferred or merged, or registration was obtained through fraud or misrepresentation. If registration is cancelled due to non-compliance (such as not filing returns for six months), the business can apply for revocation within 30 days of the cancellation order. File REG-21 and pay all pending returns with late fees and interest. FinTax24 handles all amendment, cancellation, and reactivation filings for active and past clients.
