Trademark Registration: Classes, Search, and Filing Process
FinTax24 Editorial Team6 min read
Trademark registration protects your brand name, logo, slogan, or combination. The Indian Registry follows the 45 Nice classes — pick the class(es) matching your goods or services. Before filing, run a free search on ipindiaonline.gov.in and the TM Public Search portal to confirm no confusingly similar mark is already registered in the same class. File Form TM-A online with the mark, applicant details, goods/services description, and user affidavit (if claiming prior use). Examination by the Registrar typically takes 6–12 months. If accepted, the mark is published in the TM Journal for opposition (four months). If unopposed, the mark is registered and the certificate is issued.
