FSSAI
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India — the apex body that regulates food safety and licensing in India under the FSS Act, 2006.
FSSAI is the single reference point for all food-related matters, including licensing, labelling, packaging, and recalls. Every food business operator (FBO) must obtain an FSSAI license or registration based on turnover: Basic registration for turnover below ₹12 lakh (was ₹7.5 lakh; revised under 2026 norms), State license for ₹12 lakh to ₹20 crore, Central license above ₹20 crore. Non-compliance attracts fines up to ₹10 lakh and imprisonment.
