Individual / HUF / Firm / Company — sets the primary ITR form bucket.

    Pick income source

    Salary / Business / Capital gains / Multiple sources — drives ITR-1 vs ITR-2 vs ITR-3 / ITR-4.

Each of these flags independently upgrades the form (ITR-2 / ITR-3 / ITR-4).

  5. 5

    Read verdict + recommended form

    See "File ITR-1 / ITR-2 / ITR-3 / ITR-4 / ITR-5 / ITR-6" + the ITR form code + reason.

Key takeaways

  • ITR-1 is restricted to resident individuals with salary / house-property income ≤ ₹50L and no foreign assets — every other individual case needs ITR-2 or higher.
  • Companies file ITR-6, partnership firms + LLPs file ITR-5, HUFs and individuals with business income use ITR-3 (audit) or ITR-4 (presumptive).
  • Foreign assets / signing authority require Schedule FA + ITR-2 / ITR-3 — never ITR-1.
  • Capital gains force ITR-2 regardless of other income sources.
