CIBIL Score
A 3-digit number (300-900) issued by TransUnion CIBIL that represents a borrower's creditworthiness based on credit history.
The CIBIL score is calculated using the credit history of an individual across loans and credit cards — including repayment track record, credit utilisation, credit mix, and recent inquiries. A score of 750+ is considered good, 700-749 is fair, and below 600 is poor. The score is used by banks and NBFCs for loan approval, credit limit, and interest-rate decisions. Other bureaus like Experian, Equifax, and CRIF High Mark also issue similar scores.
Examples
A salaried professional with a 785 CIBIL score easily gets a personal loan at 10.5%, while someone with a 650 score is offered 16% or rejected.
