Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to common questions about take-home salary calculator.
What is included in a CTC?
CTC includes Basic, DA, HRA, special allowance, employer PF, gratuity provisioning, medical insurance premium, LTA, food coupons, performance bonus and ESOP value. Take-home is the part actually credited to the employee — typically 50-70% of CTC depending on tax regime and deductions.
How much EPF is deducted from salary?
Employee PF contribution is 12% of basic + DA, capped on a wage base of ₹15,000 per month for employers under the EPF & MP Act 1952 ceiling. For higher wages, 12% applies without ceiling. Combined employer PF is 12% (split into EPF 3.67% + EPS 8.33%) with EDLIS and admin charges.
Is professional tax deducted on salary?
Yes, professional tax at the State-rate (₹200/month in most States, ₹500/month above ₹10,000 salary in Karnataka, ₹300/month above ₹10,000 in West Bengal, Maharashtra has been withdrawn from FY 2025-26) is deducted from salary and remitted by the employer.
What is the difference between take-home and in-hand?
Practically synonymous — both mean the net amount credited to the employee bank account after statutory and voluntary deductions. Some HR teams differentiate "in-hand" (before reimbursement claims) versus "take-home" (after claims settled); the calculator shows your projected net pay assuming defaults.
How does the new tax regime increase take-home?
Switching to the new regime lowers TDS because of the Section 87A rebate (no tax up to ₹12 lakh taxable income), the ₹75,000 standard deduction and lower slab rates. For most salaried employees this means ₹40,000 to ₹80,000 extra annual take-home versus the old regime — provided they forgo 80C/80D exemptions.
Does the calculator include ESI deductions?
Yes — for gross salaries up to ₹21,000/month, ESI employee contribution of 0.75% applies and is deducted from take-home. Employers contribute 3.25% additionally. Salaried employees above ₹21,000/month are exempt.
