Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to common questions about ctc to in-hand salary calculator.
What is included in a CTC?
CTC includes all monetary and non-monetary benefits — Basic, HRA, Special Allowance, LTA, medical insurance premium, food coupons, fuel reimbursement, mobile reimbursement, ESOP accrual, employer PF contribution, gratuity provisioning and bonus (Performance / Variable).
Is gratuity part of CTC?
Yes — gratuity provisioning for the current year (5/26 × basic, rounded) is included in CTC. The actual gratuity is paid only on exit / retirement after 5 years of service. Calculator surfaces gratuity as a CTC component but does not deduct it from in-hand.
Is ESOP in CTC?
Some companies include the Black-Scholes valuation of ESOP accrual in CTC. Others exclude it. The treatment varies; calculator allows you to enter ESOP value separately so you can see it in CTC and ignore it for take-home if your company does not include it in TDS.
Why is take-home only 60-70% of CTC?
Of a ₹20 lakh CTC offer, ~₹13.5 lakh reaches the take-home bank account. The remainder goes to EPF (employee + employer), gratuity, insurance premium, ESOP accrual and tax. The exact take-home varies with regime (new vs old) and 80C declarations.
How does insurance premium show in CTC?
Group medical insurance premium paid by employer is part of CTC and exempt in employee hands (with valuation limits). Calculator adds it to CTC but exempts from TDS by default. Individual policies bought out of employee salary do not appear in CTC.
Is CTC the same as gross salary?
No — Gross salary is Basic + DA + HRA + Special Allowance + Bonus, and is the basis for TDS / EPF. CTC adds retiral + insurance + ESOP + reimbursements on top. Gross Salary < CTC always; take-home < Gross Salary after deducting EPF, PT and TDS.
